Go on an active trip to Bali and Java islands and discover these places as you'd never have imagined! Although this itinerary ends with well-deserved beach days on Bali island, this journey is filled with early-rising Jeep or trekking escapades on Indonesian volcano mounts, as well as cultural visits to discover Java's ancient kingdoms impressive Hindus and Buddhist temples, and more recent Sultans palaces.

Itinerary

Discover Yogyakarta and its Sultans Palace before heading to Prambanan Hindu temples and Borobudur gigantic Buddhist temple. Explore mount Bromo and mount Ijen then reach Ubud on Bali island. Another trek on mount Batur, and you'll end this trip to Bali enjoying some relaxing time in Sanur, on the seaside.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Yogyakarta

Today you’ll fly to Yogyakarta. Upon arrival you will meet your driver who will take you to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Yogyakarta – Prambanan – Yogyakarta (B, L, D)

Today discover Yogyakarta and its surroundings by becak, a local 3-wheel tuktuk: the Sultan Palace or Kraton built in the 18th century, the Taman Sari or Water Palace built by the first Sultan, and enjoy a traditional leather dolls show. Then you’ll reach Prambanan, to explore these ancient Hindu temples dating back to the 9th century. In the evening, attend a traditional dance show.

Day 3: Yogyakarta – Borobudur – Yogyakarta (B, L)

This morning, you’ll first reach Borobudur, the biggest Buddhist temple in the world, the construction of which took 75 years. Then get into a dokar, a local horse-driven cart, to explore Candirejo village. Observe the local activities and listen to a gamejan, a traditional instrument. Visit the very old pyramid-shaped Mendut and Pawon temples before heading back to your hotel.

Day 4: Yogyakarta – Jombang – Mount Bromo (B, L, D)

Today you’ll get up early to take the train to Jombang (4hrs). Upon arrival, reach the former capital of the Majapahit kingdom in Trowulan. Visit the archaeological museum and the Candi temples. Then you’ll drive to mount Bromo in the Bromo-Tegger national park (4hrs).

Day 5: Mount Bromo – Mount Ijen (B, L)

Today get up early to admire mount Bromo at sunrise. Reach the volcano’s crater by Jeep, then continue with a short horse ride around it. After breakfast, you will drive to Mount Ijen (9hrs) and stay in a small village nearby.

Day 6: Mount Ijen – Munduk (B, L)

This morning, get up early for an excursion on mount Ijen. You’ll reach Paltuding basecamp (1.5hrs drive) then walk 3km up to the summit. The volcano’s crater is surrounded by sulfur mines. In the afternoon, take the ferry to Bali (45mn with beautiful views) then drive to Munduk (3hrs).

Day 7: Munduk – Bratan Lake – Ubud (B, L)

Free morning at leisure to enjoy sleeping in for once if you like!
In the afternoon, you’ll drive a mountain winding road with wonderful views upon Buyan and Tamblingan lakes, to reach Bratan Lake and its most emblematic and photogenic site of Pura Ulun Danu temple. Explore the local traditional market nearby then reach Taman Ayun royal temple in Mengwi. Finally you’ll drive to Ubud for the night.

Day 8: Ubud (B)

Free day at leisure to rest or explore Ubud.

Day 9: Ubud – Mount Batur – Ubud (B, L)

Today in the night (around 2am), you’ll drive to mount Batur (1.5hrs) and start your ascension. After 2hrs walk on ashes and sand, you’ll reach the summit for a spectacular sunrise around 6am. Enjoy some tea or coffee and walk around the crater to discover the most recent lava flows. Down the mount, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved bathing time in a hot spring. After lunch, you’ll get back to your hotel.

Day 10: Ubud (B)

Free day at leisure to discover Ubud.
Ubud is the artistic and cultural centre of Bali. Visit the ARMA museum and its local painters’ artworks, walk in the Monkey Forest, discover Peliatan Palace, and explore the local market full of flavours and colours.

Day 11: Ubud – Sanur (B)

Today you’ll drive to Sanur.
Free day at leisure to enjoy the beach and explore the surroundings.

Days 12-13: Sanur (B)

Free days at leisure to enjoy the beach and your hotel and explore the surroundings.
One day at 4pm, reach Uluwatu Temple, perched on cliffs above the ocean (1hr drive). Witness a Kecak show, Balinese most spectacular traditional dance, at sunset in a small outdoor theater. Get some freshly grilled fish at the neighboring village of Jimbaran for an unforgettable evening.

Day 14: Sanur Departure (B)

Today is the end of your trip to Bali. Your driver will take you to the airport, where you will board a flight to your next destination.
