Caravan to the Badain Jaran desert
For the nature and sports lovers, this desert trekking tour combines beautiful, magical landscapes and a good amount of efforts. Making it a unique moment, these elements combined will leave on you an unforgettable print!
Badain Jaran
Located in Inner Mongolia and close to Gansu province, the Badain Jaran desert has many particularities: it is scattered with many salted lakes among the sand dunes, and is also home to the third highest dune in the world. A perfect place for a desert trekking tour.
Desert hiking tour itinerary
A total of 65kms for 5 days in the desert with 3 full days walking. In case you get tired, camels will be there to carry you.
Itinerary
Day 1: Jinchang
Upon arrival at Jinchang airport, you will meet your fellow travelers and depart to the entrance of the Badain Jaran desert by private bus. You’ll change the bus for Jeeps, better equipped to cross the desert, the adventure is starting! Tonight you will have dinner and sleep at our Cameleer’s place.
Day 2: Trek or camel ride in the desert
Today, once the sun is already up, you will start your desert trekking tour with a 15km walk journey. While on top on the dunes you can admire the magnificent view on lake Nuretu. Everyone will have its own camel so you can walk or ride as you feel like. Tonight you will sleep nearby a temple.
Days 3 & 4: Trek or camel ride in the desert
Your next two days will bring you to the third highest dune in the world, from frozen oasis to frozen oasis at a rhythm of approximately 15kms per day. At that time of the year the dunes are partly covered by snow, a magical show that will render you speechless.
In the evenings you will sleep in local guesthouses.
Day 5: Last day of trek
Today is time to say goodbye to your local companions and enjoy a great jeep tour in the dunes to end this amazing week.
Then you’ll be transferred to Jinchang hotel to get a well-deserved shower.
Day 6: Jinchang departure
Today, transfer to the airport to take your flight to your next destination.
