Elise’s family:
An extraordinary trip to the gates of a desert often flown over, … but never visited until today! April 17, 2021, so here we are all off with family and friends to discover the gigantic landscapes of China, on the border of Inner Mongolia: The Badain Jaran desert! After a few hours of driving, punctuated by both gentle undulations and sudden jolts on a road that no longer exists, the adventure begins! What a breathtaking shock to discover this unknown and powerful mass of sand, this sea with waves of majestic dunes! A striking landscape that stretches to infinity, we are all already transported far beyond our expectations. Each day was the promise of walking in the fresh air, joyful memories on the back of our docile camels, and painful efforts to resist these billions of grains of sand submerging us. Grains of sand that we painfully tried to conquer to the top of “Bilutu Peak”, one of the highest in the world. An epic ascent to 1600 meters largely won by the agility of our children, defying the laws of gravity while we tried at the end of our strength to resist the sandslides stealing the ground with each of our steps. Fortunately, the evening came, inviting us around good hot dishes to rest in the warm lodgings of the local friends of our dear guide Emilie. We were finally enjoying a well-deserved rest, lulled by the cosmic silence of beautiful starry nights. We will long cherish the magical memory of this earthly force, made of tiny grains of sand, assembled in the middle of nowhere. Transported for a trip to another dimension, we become aware of the infinitely large, dazzled by this honey-colored light. The desert is there, at our feet, breathtakingly timeless and seemingly lasting for eternity. What to say if not to live it, to see it at least once in your life!
