Trip to Tibet itinerary

A few days in Lhasa in order to acclimatize yourself to the altitude before leaving to explore the lakes and mountains until you reach the Everest Base Camp.

Itinerary

Day 1: Lhasa

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by your guide and transfer to the city center.
The rest of the day will help you get some rest and acclimatize to the altitude.

Days 2 & 3: Lhasa

During those two days you will visit the most famous monuments of Lhasa, symbols of the times when the city was the epicenter of Buddhism. From the Jokhang temple to the famous Potala, the Winter palace of the Dalai Lama and via the Barkhor market, the most famous of all, you’ll also explore the Drepung and Sera monasteries where you will assist to their philosophical debates.

Day 4: Lhasa – Gyantse

Today you will take the road to Gyantse via the Kampa La pass, with a beautiful view on the emerald sacred Yamdrok lake and surrounding snow peaks. On the way you’ll stop at Karo La (5150m) to see Nyenchen Kangsar glacier. At your arrival in Gyantse, visit the Kumbum stupa and the Palkhor Choede monastery.

Day 5: Gyantse – Shigatse

Today you’ll drive to Shigatse, the second biggest city and religious centre in Tibet, where you will visit the famous Tashilhunpo monastery, former residence of the Panchen-Lama lineage.

Day 6: Shigatse – Sakya – Shegar

Today, you’ll start driving to the Everest, with a stop in Sakya to visit its old monastery. Then continue your journey towards Shegar, where you will visit the ruins of the old city fort (Shegar Dzong).

Day 7: Shegar – Everest Base Camp

This morning, you’ll head to the Everest base camp (EBC), the last stage accessible to tourists before Mount Everest, located in the Rongbuk valley. On the way, you will pass by Lake Pekutso, and will also admire the Himalayan chain and its peaks which mostly exceed 8000m.

Day 8 : EBC – Shigatse

This morning you’ll wake up early to admire the sunrise on Mount Everest. You can walk to reach the view point not far from the camp. Then you will take the road back to Shigatse.

Day 9: Shigatse – Lhasa

Today you’ll drive back to Lhasa along the Friendship Highway. In Lhasa, stroll around at leisure in the city centre to stretch your legs and get some postcards or souvenirs.

Day 10: Lhasa

This trip to Tibet will end with the last moments in Lhasa before taking your flight for your next destination.
