Tibetan culture is spread all over the western part of China, overflowing the borders of the administrative region of Tibet. Yading mountain trek will bring you to the west of Sichuan on a sacred mountain.

Itinerary

Meet your fellow travelers and guide in Shangri-La Yunnan, then head to Yading by car. Get acclimatized to the high altitude before starting your 7 day trek.

Itinerary

Day 1: Departure from Shangri La to Yading (Alt 2900m) (D)

This morning meet your guide. You will leave by car for Yading with your fellow travelers. It should take around 5 hours to reach Yading. You will spend the night in Yading to acclimatize to the altitude.

Day 2: Yading - Chonggu Temple - Boyong Lake (Alt 4750m) - Trek day 1 (B,L,D)

This morning take the tourist shuttle bus to Yading National Park. Drive 32 km into the reserve, then begin your trek to reach Chonggu Temple (3,990m) a sacred site with panoramic mountain views. Keep walking until reaching your evening camp at 4400m (it should be with altogether an 8kms trek / 4h walk) near Joseph F. Rock’s historic campsite immersing yourself in the pristine wilderness. Day 3: Trek day 2 to Tsaguo (Alt 4400m) (B,L,D)

This morning, after a good breakfast, you will leave for your first day of hike for around 12 kilometers. You will walk about 5hrs before reaching the highest pass today at 4900m high capturing reflections of Mt.Jambeyang, Mt.Chanadorje and Mt. Chenrezig—popular spots for breathtaking photos. Your horses caravan will also go through the pass: seeing the agility of these animals is quite impressive.
After a good day walking you will settle your camp at Tsaguo Cattle Farm at 4400m.

Day 4: Trek day 3 to Zambala (Alt 4400m) (B,L,D)

Today is a 6h walk. Cross high mountain passes, explore ancient forests, and enjoy panoramic views of Mount Chanadorje. There is about 14 kilometers walking in the mountains. Tonight you’ll camp at the Zambala camp site at 4400m.

Day 5: Trek day 4 to Xinguo cattle farm (Alt 4300m) (B,L,D)

Early morning if the weather allows it enjoy a sunrise view on Chanadorje peak. Today you will go through two passes: Zambala Pass 4750m and Yampelyang Horizontal Pass 4430m. Your trek brings you along the beautiful valley and snowy peaks Mount Yambeyang and Chanadorje. After a 12 kilometers walk, you’ll camp at Xinguo Pasture at 4300m.

Day 6: Trek day 5 to snake lake (Alt 4500m) (B,L,D)

Today is a challenging day as you’ll go through two passes, Dorje Pass(4770m) and Jadula Pass(4730m). It’s a 13 kilometers walk and should take approximately 6 hours. You will be crossing black mountain and 3 lakes on the way to the camping site: Black lake, Jadu Lake and Serin Lake. Tonight you’ll camp at 4450m along the shimmering Snake lake, known for its mystical atmosphere.

Day 7: Trek day 6 to Kasi pasture (Alt 4400m) (B,L,D)

After breakfast, start your 12kilometers hike. On the way enjoy a bird’s eye view of Milk lake and Mount Yampelyang peak(5958m). At Songdo pass (4670m) you will have a chance to see all the three holy peaks of the mountains and holy lakes. There is about 12 kilometers walking in the mountains. Overnight camping at Kasi pasture at 4400m.

Day 8: Trek day 7 to Daocheng (B,L,D)

Today is your last trekking day. Once again you’ll walk around 12 kilometers. It will take you around 3h30 to reach your last pass of your trek at 4650m. You will see many prayer flags flying on Songluo Pass representing Tibetans reverence for the sacred mountains. Then walk to Drolma lake at 4150m meters and end your trek at Chonggu monastery. You will take the shuttle bus to the tourist center (around 1 hour) and meet your driver to bring you to Daocheng for the night.

Day 09: Daocheng - Litang - Lhagang (B,L,D)

Retrace your route back through Litang grassland and continue to Lhagang(Tagong town) for the night. The drive is about 375km and will take the whole day.

Day 10: Lhagang - Chengdu (B,L,D)

This morning, before leaving, visit Lhagang monastery, one of the oldest temples built during the 7th century by King Songtsen Ganpo. The return journey drive about 360 kilometers back to Chengdu, a city renowned for its relaxed lifestyle and spicy Sichuan cuisine.
