Itinerary
A jump in Buddhist culture and religion, without forgetting the omnipresent beauty of nature with its lakes and high mountains.
Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by your guide and transferred to the city center. You will meet your fellow travelers. For the rest of the day you will get some rest and acclimatize to the altitude.
During those two days you will visit the most famous monuments of Lhasa, symbols of the times when the city was the epicenter of Buddhism. From the Jokhang temple to the famous Potala, the Winter palace of the Dalai Lama and via the Barkhor market, the most famous of all, you’ll also explore the Drepung and Sera monasteries where you will assist to their philosophical debates.
It is time to hit the road to reach the Everest Base Camp! You’ll be surrounded by fantastic mountain sceneries on your way, at Kampa La pass, above the emerald sacred Yamdrok lake and at the Karo La glacier. You’ll reach Gyantse where you will stop to visit Palkhor Choede monastery. Then from Shigatse you will be able to admire the Himalayas and its peaks which all exceed 8000m high: Makalu mount (8463m), Lotse mount (8516m), Everest mount (8848m), Cho Oyu mount (8201m). Upon arrival at the EBC you’ll spend the night in a shared tent with other travelers and will enjoy the view on this mythical mount.
This morning, get up at dawn to enjoy the sunrise on Mount Everest . Then you will get in the car to go back to Shigatse, second biggest city and Buddhist centre in Tibet, where you’ll visit the Tashilhunpo monastery, former residence of the Panchen-Lama lineage. To go back to Lhasa you will take the Friendship highway along the Brahmaputra river.
This morning it is time to say goodbye. Your driver will bring you back to the airport/train station.
