Tibetan culture is spread all over the western part of China, overflowing the borders of the administrative region of Tibet. This trekking group tour will bring you in the very north-west part of Sichuan where Tibetan culture has very deep roots.






Kham
Kham is a Tibetan region stretching from the north of Yunnan through Sichuan and the southern areas of Qinghai. It is one of the three traditional provinces of Tibet.
Difficulty level of this trek
This trek is accessible to people who are used to trek The difficulty comes from the altitude (minimum 3600m to maximum 4950m) and the access (no path).
Itinerary
Fly to Ganzi the most north west airport of Sichuan. You will spend a few days in Dege (3200m) to get acclimatized to the high altitude then reach Dzongsar (3600m) before starting your amazing Tibet trekking group tour in the nature.
Itinerary
This morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Gesar. Pick up at the airport and meet your guide. You will leave by car going through the small town of Manigango and see the amazing Yulhung lake, one of the most sacred lake in all Tibet. Then you will pass Trola mountain tunnel and then descend to Dege. On the way, you will visit Mandra monastery, a small well-preserved monastery in a valley beside the road.
You will spend the night in Dege to acclimatize to the altitude.
Enjoy a morning of sightseeing exploring Dege, the oldest kingdom and cultural and religious center of Kham. Begin with the famous sutra printing house (where books are still printed using traditional methods, without machines, from April to October). Then, discover Genchen Monastery, Thangtong Gyalpo Temple, and stroll through the town. In the late afternoon, depart Dege for Dzongsar in the Menshod Valley. This evening, you will spend the night in a local guesthouse.
This morning, final preparations before the start of your trek. Visit Dzongsar Monastery before beginning your trek through the Ronmey Valley, towards Chungtak Mountain. After approximately 4 hours of walking, you will pitch your tents for the night.
After breakfast, you will begin your walk towards the Drugo-la pass (4700m) and enjoy the magnificent panoramas of Mount Nyadra (5655m) before descending to the foot of the Rongme karmo taktsang meditation center where Mipham Rinpoche spent a 13-year retreat.
A short descent from the campsite will lead you to a dirt track and then to the charming log houses of Rongme village (3,742 m). This will be one of your last glimpses of village life before returning to the wilderness of the Trola range. You will ascend the steep, forested slopes of Rongme Valley to camp in a meadow near Rongme Chu River. If the sky is clear, you will have a breathtaking view of the valley and Rongme Ngatra (6,168 m), the highest peak in the Trola range.
Today the number of kilometers to cover is not important, but the climb in altitude will the hard part. You will walk through the forest and then through the scrubland to the high-altitude camp, located in a small glacial cirque below the Go-tre Dungma pass where yak herders stay during Summer.
Today, a long day of hiking awaits you with the ascent of two neighboring passes: Go-tre Dungma La (4,850 m) and Drechen La (4,900 m), before a well-deserved lunch overlooking the lake. Then, the descent to tonight’s camp on the banks of a large and beautiful river.
This morning, begin your final long day of trekking. The climb from the camp to Dzin La pass (5,000 m) is long but magnificent. From the summit, the view of the U-shaped hanging glacial valleys that plunge into Ting Chu canyon is breathtaking. You will throw three stones onto the rocky ridge at the pass as an offering to the protectors who have watched over your journey, and you will have to shout “La-So-So-So!” (food for the gods) into the wind. You will circle the ridge three times, then begin the final descent to the picturesque glacial lake of Dzin Tso, before meeting your driver to bring you to Manigango for a well deserved shower and good night sleep.
Today, it will be time to leave nature and head back to Ganzi with your driver, who will drop you off at the airport. You will then catch your flight to your next destination.
