Bénédicte

Hi Emilie,
Thanks for organizing such a great tour to Yunnan for us. The last minute changes were quite favorable to the trip schedule. You’ll find below Martin and Pauline’s feedback on the first three days of their trip.

Stay and night at the Red Hill BnB: very comfortable room, excellent dinner and breakfast, very agreeable moment with the owners by the chimney fire. There was a small confusion on the planning of the trek but we easily handled it with the owner Nathan. He directly contacted a Tibetan guide and gave us oxygen bottles for the three days of hiking (we didn’t need them, but it was reassuring to have them).

Two-day trek and Qechua tent nights (hike up to 4000m and Nambao lake): everything went well with our guide Nima, we were accompanied by a woman from the village as well as two donkeys to carry our bags. The equipment quality was very good and the meals (dinner and breakfast) were correct. The landscapes were absolutely splendid. We warmly recommend this trek to other travelers (with a good physical condition as it was intense). Essential to have good shoes and adapted equipment.

Night and day in Niru: The guesthouse we stayed at was correct, with a stunning view on the mountains, but the food was average and the bathroom (in the corridor) was stern. The dinner with the family and meeting with the villagers was very enjoyable, a human connection experience – we recommend a visit to Niru. The hike to Qicai waterfalls was difficult for us after two long days of trek. It took us 6 hours to climb up and down. On the contrary to our first trek in Nambao, the landscapes weren’t particularly impressive, which was a bit frustrating seen the physical effort we had to make.

Shangri-La and night at the Timeless Inn: the owner, Rose, is very welcoming and we had a very good stay at the hotel – breakfast was enjoyable too! We recommend the restaurant Flying Tigers Cafe for a great Yak meat burger after 3 full days of trek!

Learning – double-check all the information that is found on the paper that we use as the single source of truth. Some things were note entirely correct (e.g. Shudu lake was mentioned although it was not part of the itinerary // accommodation for each stop of the trek was also a little confusing). Confusion about where and when Mr. Mu would become part of the journey, and unfortunately it never came to be meaning we never met this sweet man.
Pauline and Martin

As for us in Lijiang : upon arrival at Lijiang airport we were taken in chzrge by a driver from the Manty Inn instead of the Jiangshe Inn as it was written on our itinerary. We were warmly welcomed by the owner Eric who speaks a very good English. We met with Martin and Pauline who were coming back from the Tiger Leaping Gorge. They only passed by quickly as it is very touristy.
We visited the old town on foot, very animated, to recommend.
We enjoyed the breakfast on the terrace in front of our rooms, under the sunshine.

Baoshan and Wumu:
We started with our guide Jeff who is actually the owner of Huahuasei Lodge in Wumu, for 2 fantastic days.
The drive was quite long on mountain winding roads that were more or less well maintained, but the landscapes were splendid.
Baoshan village is mind-blowing. Thanks to Jeff we enjoyed a really good lunch on top of the village with a breathtaking view.
Then we continued our way to Wumu. After checking in at the Lodge, we left with Jeff for an hour walk around the village.
This trip was completely off the beaten track, without any tourist, the best.
Jeff understood us very well and made us discover his place under the best conditions.

Way back to Lijiang:
Before leaving, Jeff suggested us to walk down from Wumu to the Yangze river (700 meters elevation gain), accompanied by a guide. It was followed with a short motorboat trip on the river to reach the dam. There was a small supplement, but we were delighted.
Then we went back to Lijiang, passing through the villages of Yushu and Baisha, as mentioned on our itinerary. There are very touristy and less authentic than Baoshan and Wumu.
As a conclusion, Martin and Pauline loved their trip, they were really glad to have done these 3 days of trek before joining us. As for us, the trip was much shorter but we enjoyed it a lot.

Kind regards,
Bénédicte and Emmanuel”
